Week5.Jamaica.Japan.UnitedStates

In the past five weeks I have traveled to Jamaica and Japan. Let me tell you, the two places were amazing! Both places are really pretty but they are both very different from eachother and the United States. Starting with their cultures, Jamaica's culture is very much based on lots of different kinds of music and dancing! I enjoyed watching some of their dancing and listening to their music while I was there. And Japan's culture is mostly Japanese festivals and ceremonies. A festival that the have in Japan is White Day. This day is the Japanese version of Valentine's Day that is celebrated on March 14th, one month after Valentine's Day. A Japenese ceremony that I actually got to see while I was there is called Genpuku. It is a Japanese Coming of Age ceremony in which a teenager legally becomes an adult. That was really interesting to see. Because there is so many different races of people living in the United States there is so many different cultures. Americans and Jamaicans have mostly the same language because most of Jamaica speaks English. And Japanese people speak, well, Japenese. They all have very different kinds of food. Well the United states has Japanese foods but they are still kind of different in a way. I had a great time tasting all the different kinds of foods when I visited these places. Well, I had a great time in Jamaica and Japan and I would travel to both of these places again because it was just so great to expierience their different lifestyles and to visit some of the museums, beaches, ceremonies, festivals, and resturaunts.

JAPAN&JAMAICA

Japan and Jamaica have very different cultures. Jamaica's culture really focuses on music and different kinds. Japan has many festivals or parades with dragons, kimono-clad ladies, weird masks, and blossum temples.

Jamaicans and Japenese wear different clothes too! Jamaicans wear t-shirts, skirts, dresses and jeans when it's hot. When it is hot in Japan, like during the summer, men wear Yukata's or Jambei, which is like a pajama type outfit. And girls wear fashion dresses or Kimono robes. Regular day clothes would be things like long vests, tankshirts, or knitted tops.

They also eat many different foods. Jamaica has many exotic spices and many tropical fruits and vegetables. Japan eats sushi, they have rice bowls, chicken fried rice, and onigiri, which is riceballs wrapped in seaweed.

Jamaica's religion is Protestant. Japan had two major religions, one is Shinto and the other is Buddhism. Most Japanese consider themselves one of those two religions or both.

The Japanese language is spoken by 130 million people. Jamaicans have a Jamaican accent which is a combination of Spanish, English, and assorted African tounges.

The Major tourist site that I visited in Japan is the Himeji Castle. This castle is the most famous castle in Japan! It is also called the White Heron Castle because of its white outer walls. It is the only castle out of twelve in Japan that is still in its original shape. The Himeji Castle was built in 1346 by Akamatsu Sadanori. Some people believe that this castle took 25,000,000 days to build! The castle included a five-storied tower and a middle and outer moat. In 1601, as a gift of his support in the Sekigahara battle, Ikeda Terumasa was put in control of the Himeji Castle. It was never actually used in a battle. It has been in it's original shape for more than three hundred years!! And in 1993 the Himeji Castle was put on the list of UNESCO World Cultural and Heritage Sites.
